Holmes finishes eagle-birdie to lead the AT&T
Feb. 11, 2010 - 7:40 PM ET

J.B. Holmes crafted a 7-under-par 32-33=65 at Pebble Beach in his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Holmes hit 14 GIR and required just 26 putts, but it was his finish that turned heads. On the photogenic, par-4 8th hole, Holmes jarred his approach from 178 yards, pulling the string on an iron for an eagle. Then, on the par-4 9th, he drained a birdie putt from 38'8". He signed his card as the clubhouse leader and will play the Shore Course at MPCC tomorrow. Benign conditions have allowed for very low scores today. There is a threat of rain on Friday, which could negatively impact second-round scoring. The entire field will play lift, clean and place for the first three rounds as a result.
