Cubs, Theriot appear headed for hearing

The Cubs and shortstop Ryan Theriot appear headed for an arbitration hearing, reports Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.
"I haven't spoken to his people for a while," said general manager Jim Hendry. "There's always a chance (for a settlement) until it's final. But I can't say I'm optimistic, either. We're already settled with the other seven (arbitration-eligible players). So if the situation ends up going to a hearing, then that's OK, too." Theriot asked for $3.4 million and was offered $2.6 million from when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. The Cubs haven't went to a hearing with one of their players since Mark Grace in 1993.
