Bob Gainey is stepping down as Montreal's GM

The Montreal Canadiens will announce that Bob Gainey is stepping down as the Canadiens' General Manager.
Assistant GM Pierre Gauthier will serve as the team's GM on an interim basis. Gainey completely restructured in the team in the off-season after the Canadiens just barely squeaked into the playoffs in 2008-09. The result? Montreal currently has a mediocre 28-26-6 record, which is good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Gainey had a 241-176-46-7 record overall as Montreal's General Manager.
