Riggleman could use Ian Desmond in outfield
Ian Desmond - SS - Washington Nationals
Feb. 6, 2010 - 6:05 PM ET

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, manager Jim Riggleman said Ian Desmond could play all three outfield positions, in addition to shortstop and second base.

Yikes. Cristian Guzman clearly wasn't okay with moving to second base, so the Nationals pursued Orlando Hudson and finally signed Adam Kennedy. This leaves Desmond out in the cold. The 24-year-old was used in a similar way by Riggleman down the stretch last season, including one start in right field, five starts at second base and 14 starts at shortstop, but he was used almost exclusively at shortstop in the minors, making only one appearance in the outfield over six seasons. It promises to be an adventure.
