Hayhurst has shoulder surgery, out 4-6 months
Dirk Hayhurst - R - Toronto Blue Jays
Feb. 5, 2010 - 5:45 PM ET

Dirk Hayhurst underwent surgery Friday to repair fraying in the labrum of his right shoulder and is expected to miss 4-6 months.

Ouch. When news first broke of the scheduled surgery last week, the Blue Jays called it "exploratory" and were positive about a possible short recovery time. But chances are Hayhurst won't pitch at all in the first half of the 2010 season. The 27-year-old right-hander had a 2.78 ERA and a 13/9 K/BB ratio in 22 2/3 innings of relief for Toronto last season.
