The Washington Capitals are now just three games away from tying the longest winning streak in NHL history. Alex Ovechkin rallied the Capitals past the Penguins in overtime Sunday to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 14 games. Take a look back at Washington's historic streak.

Alex Ovechkin scored an arena-rocking hat trick and got the assist on Mike Knuble's winning goal in overtime, while the Capitals kept up their pursuit of NHL history with a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 39th goal and had an assist as the Capitals cruised to victory. Rookie goalie Michal Neuvirth made 43 saves against the Thrashers, playing one day after trading star winger Ilya Kovalchuk to New Jersey, perhaps Washington's biggest threat to make it out of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
