According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, free agent lefty Jarrod Washburn may opt to retire if he doesn't find a suitable offer.
Washburn has drawn only mild interest this winter, but it seems silly to think he can't find some kind of low-base, incentive-laden salary. Sure, the 35-year-old had a tough time down the stretch, tallying an ugly 7.33 ERA in eight starts after being traded to the Tigers. But he was 9-9 overall with a 3.78 ERA in 28 starts and there are plenty of desperate MLB clubs.
