Crane an unlikely rabbit in Farmers' opener
Jan. 28, 2010 - 4:20 PM ET

Ben Crane carded a 7-under-par 34-31=65 on the North Course at Torrey Pines to take the clubhouse lead at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Getting his one shot at the easier of this week's two tracks, the infamously slow-playing Crane pounced, draining eight birdies in ideal conditions. He hit 17 GIR and needed just 29 putts. Crane finished T7 a year ago after opening with a 69 on the North Course. He entered this week having made 10 consecutive cuts dating back to the Buick Open in August.
