Rangers, Del Zotto not close to new deal
Michael Del Zotto - D - New York Rangers
Aug. 20, 2012 - 1:50 PM ET

Michael Del Zotto and the Rangers are reportedly not close in their contract talks, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

Discussions are expected to pick up over the next couple of weeks because players can't be signed after Sept. 15 if there's not a new collective bargaining agreement in place. The possibility that the salary cap could be lowered is another motivator to get a deal done as quickly as possible. The proposed contract the Rangers are offering is believed to be around $2.2 million to $2.5 million per season. Del Zotto led the Blueshirts defense corps with 10 goals and 41 points in 77 games last season.
