  • ATL Third Baseman #27
Yikes. Riley has progressed to taking batting practice without any issues, but it appears the Braves don’t want to take any chances here. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker told reports Friday that he doesn’t expect Riley back until Monday’s series opener against the Nationals. The 27-year-old fantasy star hasn’t played since May 12 and will miss his 12th consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the hot corner in his absence.
  • TB Right Fielder #15
Ugh. There was some optimism that Lowe wouldn’t be facing a lengthy absence after he wasn’t put on the injured list ahead of Friday’s series opener. The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart told reporters Saturday that he hopes to only have a minimum stay on the injured list, which is extremely encouraging. He’s been limited to just 14 games this season due to persistent injuries. It sounds like there’s a strong possibility he’ll return in early June.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #39
He’s our closer,” Mendoza added. “Even if he’s going through it right now.” He also elaborated that they’ll “piece it together” moving forward in the ninth inning. It’s a bit of a confusing message and isn’t exactly the vote of confidence fantasy managers are hoping to hear. It certainly sounds like Díaz will get some save opportunities in the near future, but Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino and Jorge López might also still be in the mix. What a mess.
  • TEX Left Fielder #36
It won’t show up in the surface stats, but Langford recorded impressive exit velocities of 109.6, 101.3 and 96 mph on three batted ball events during his rehab assignment debut on Friday night at Triple-A Round Rock. The 22-year-old top prospect will likely require a handful of additional contests to get back up to speed before returning to the Rangers’ lineup. He’s been on the shelf since early May recovering from a right hamstring strain.
  • NYY Left Fielder #22
Revenge game? Soto was facing his former club, and he kept doing what he’s done for the overwhelming majority of 2024. The 25-year-old scorched one of four homers Yu Darvish gave up on the evening, and he’s gone deep 14 times in his first year in New York. Soto also doubled and walked, and any questions about how he’d handle the pressure of New York have been answered with a resounding “pretty easily.”
  • CLE Third Baseman #11
Ramirez also drew a walk. The switch-hitting star has gone deep 14 times, and both long balls were off Patrick Sandoval on Friday. The 31-year-old scuffled early in the season, but he’s now on pace for a 40-plus homer, 20-plus stolen base season. That’ll work.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #29
Garrett scattered four hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out six. The left-hander needed only 95 pitches to complete the shutout, and 71 of those were able to land for strikes. Simply put, the D-backs’ offense was once again lethargic, but Garrett had easily his best start since coming back from the injured list early in May. The 26-year-old will face off against the Padres on Wednesday and try to duplicate this effort. It’s unlikely, but Garrett has the stuff to provide relevance over the final 2/3 of the season.
  • WAS Center Fielder #50
Rumors of an imminent call-up began circulating on social media when Wood was lifted from the fifth inning of Thursday’s game at Triple-A Rochester, but it sounds like the Nationals are merely proceeding with an abundance of caution and not taking any chances here. The 21-year-old top prospect is batting .355 (59-for-166) with nine homers and 10 steals in 44 games this season and appears to be on the precipice of arriving in the majors.
  • ATL Third Baseman #27
Riley remained out of Atlanta’s lineup for the 10th consecutive contest on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field recovering from an intercostal strain. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart hasn’t played since May 12. The positive news here is that he was able to resume hitting on Wednesday without any issues. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to return for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #32
Smith-Shawver looked sharp on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs, carrying a shutout into the fifth inning before Braves manager Brian Snitker elected to turn things over to the bullpen rather than let him face the top of Chicago’s lineup for a third time. He surrendered just three hits, struck out four and issued only a pair of walks. He generated nine swinging strikes and finished with a 24 percent CSW. The 21-year-old righty rocketed to the big leagues last year, but hasn’t had a ton of success at the highest level. There’s a possibility he gets an extended look over the rest of the year, but that remains to be seen. He’s currently in line to take the ball next Wednesday against the Nationals.
