Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that right-handed reliever Matt Capps has signed a one-year contract with the Nationals.
Capps should get a shot at closing duties in Washington, which is presumably why he took the Nationals' offer over the Cubs'. He had a disappointing 5.80 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 54-plus innings for the Pirates this past season and will try to rebuild his reputation with a solid 2010 campaign in D.C.. Brian Bruney may be relegated to a setup gig for the Nats.
