Mets official denies interest in Pedro
Pedro Martinez - S - Philadelphia Phillies
Dec. 21, 2009 - 8:00 PM ET

A Mets official has denied an ESPN.com report that the club is looking into bringing back free agent starter Pedro Martinez.

Pedro is seeking a salary of over $7.5 million in 2010 and the Mets are rightfully unwilling to fork over that kind of cash. He compiled a 5-1 record, 3.63 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in nine starts with the Phillies this season but just turned 38. The Mets are currently focused on grabbing a starting catcher -- namely Bengie Molina -- and may later target a starter like Joel Pineiro.
