The New Jersey Devils selection of Stefan Matteau with the 29th overall pick instantly brought up memories of his father, Stephane.
Stephane is best known in New Jersey for scoring the series-winning goal that eliminated the Devils in 1994. That same goal also elevated the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals. Stefan was only three months old at the time, but he's well aware of what happened. "He's told me about it a few times and I've seen the replay too," Stefan said of his father. "That's something I'll try to give back to him now. It's going to be a challenge for me to overcome that." Who knows, maybe someday Stefan will score a key postseason goal for New Jersey.
