RNH hopes to be first Oiler to win Calder
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - C - Edmonton Oilers
June 20, 2012 - 9:20 AM ET

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could become the first Edmonton Oiler to win the Calder Trophy, as the league's top rookie at the NHL Awards on Wednesday.

Wayne Gretzky had 137 points in his first NHL season in 1979-80, but he did not win the award after being ruled ineligible because he played the previous season with Edmonton in the World Hockey Association. Nugent-Hopkins appeared in 62 games this past campaign due to injury, but he still managed to record 52 points. However, he wasn't as effective due to a bad shoulder which he says is fine now.
