Erik Karlsson has signed a seven-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.
He will earn $45.5 million over the length of the contract. Karlsson broke out in 2011-12 with 19 goals and 78 points in 81 games to lead all blueliners in scoring and the Senators are hoping that he will continue to grow. He understands the pressure that comes with a new long-term deal for big money and he feels he is ready for it. "I'm not happy with where I am today," he said. "I'm still trying to be a better hockey player and a better person as well. I know Ottawa has all the capacity to help me be that guy and it's going to be an exciting thing."
