The New Jersey Devils chose not to surrender their first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
Tuesday was the deadline for them to make the decision, so they will have the 29th overall selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The Devils will have to decide if they will give up their first rounder in 2013 or 2014 now, as part of the penalty for Ilya Kovalchuk's rejected 17-year, $102 million contract.
