The Flyers announced Tuesday that Ian Laperriere has retired.
This comes as no surprise. There were reports last week indicating that Laperriere would retire following the Cup final after sitting out the last two seasons while on long-term injured reserve. Signed by the Flyers in the summer of 2009, he played all 82 games in '09-10 and 13 in the postseason as the Flyers made a run to the Cup final. Laperriere suffered a severe facial injury and concussion in the opening series against New Jersey, but returned to the lineup for the conference final and Cup round. In all or part of 16 seasons, "Lappy" recorded 336 points in 1,084 games.
