Veteran goaltender Martin Brodeur came up big with 33 saves, including eight in a third period that was dominated by New York, en route to the New Jersey Devils' 3-2 overtime triumph over the Rangers Friday night.
Brodeur, 40, was not tested in overtime despite the Rangers holding the puck in the zone for roughly the first 45 seconds. The Devils defeated the Rangers 4-2 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final and will open the Stanley Cup championship series Wednesday night in New Jersey against the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Kings.
