Ryan Carter - C - New Jersey Devils
May 23, 2012 - 11:25 PM ET

Ryan Carter snapped a tie with 4:24 left in the third period as the New Jersey Devils notched a 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers after squandering a three-goal lead in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday night.

The Devils led 3-0 before the first period was half over. They allowed the Rangers to tie the score at 3-3 before Carter's goal and an empty net goal. The Devils now own a 3-2 edge in the series and can advance to face the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup finals with a victory at home on Friday night. If the Rangers can stay alive then, Game 7 would be back in Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Carter was a plus-two on the night, as was teammate Ilya Kovalchuk, who posted two assists. Mark Fayne also had two assists for the Devils. Zach Parise got the empty-net goal, while Patrik Elias, Travis Zajac and Stephen Gionta also picked up goals for the winners.
