Charlie Weis would be interested in the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator job if it comes open, a source close to the former Notre Dame football coach told the Chicago Sun-Times.
That's Ron Turner's job to lose. Quarterback Jay Cutler's struggles and problems for the offense overall have led to speculation that the team could make a change at OC.
The Sun-Times points out that the Weis family is entrenched in the Chicago area, so this job could hold particular appeal. Charlie Jr. will be in his senior year at St. Joseph's High School in South Bend next year. And Maura Weis, the coach's wife, is dedicated to Hannah and Friends, a charity named after their daughter that helps children and young adults with autism and other special needs.
The source also told the newspaper that succeeding in the same media market that has labeled him a failure at Notre Dame is added incentive.
However, Weis would never contact the Bears, the source said. He will respect protocol and see if the team contacts him.
Silva: Each NFL team enters the offseason with a series of pressing needs. Sometimes a team can address them all, sometimes they ignore them all. But if a team's smart, they'll listen to us. These are the most crucial aspects for NFC teams.
