NHL gives Claude Giroux a one-game suspension
Claude Giroux - C - Philadelphia Flyers
May 7, 2012 - 3:25 PM ET

Claude Giroux has been suspended for Game 5 on Tuesday for his hit to the head of Dainius Zubrus.

NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan felt that it was an illegal check to the head that was "late" and "reckless." His punishment might have been worse had Zubrus suffered an apparent injury or Giroux had a suspension history. Given that the Philadelphia Flyers will be eliminated if they lose on Tuesday, this is a huge blow. Giroux has eight goals and a league-leading 17 points in 10 playoff games. He will be eligible to return on Thursday if Philadelphia manages to win Tuesday.
