According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates are in pursuit of free agent left-hander Noah Lowry.
Lowry, 29, went 14-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 2007, his last healthy season. Since then he's battled multiple elbow and forearm issues. The lefty is an ideal high-risk, high-reward signing and should fit into the Bucs' financial plans. The Rockies have also expressed some preliminary interest.
