Mauer is eligible for free agency next year, and his presence on the market would spark a huge bidding war. The Twins are expected to make him a significant offer this winter, and Mauer could yet choose to stay with his hometown team. However, if he's not signed by the end of spring training, it's doubtful that he'll be back with the club in 2011.
