Contreras meets with Japanese ball club

Free agent right-hander Jose Contreras met and worked out Thursday for officials of the Softbank Hawks in Japan.
Contreras threw a 50-pitch bullpen session in front of Hawks management. His son enrolled recently in a Japanese high school exchange program and he's hoping to gain employment in the country. "I came to Japan several times as an amateur," said Contreras. "I know they play at a very high level here and I have tremendous respect for Japanese baseball."
