Phillies close to deal with INF Castro
Juan Castro - SS - Los Angeles Dodgers
Nov. 24, 2009 - 3:15 PM ET

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that the Phillies are close to a one-year deal with free agent infielder Juan Castro.

"Who doesn't like the Phillies as an organization?" Castro's agent Oscar Suarez said. "You want to win. And who doesn't like Juan Castro? You want to have a superb utility man to back up the guys you have up the middle. We're trying to put this thing together. I think we're going to get it done." Castro can spell Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley, but we'd hardly say we like the guy. The 37-year-old utilityman has a .230/.270/.332 slash-line in his 15 year career. It's ultimately a pretty lateral move from Eric Bruntlett.
