Craig Conroy has become more of a mentor to the Calgary Flames of late.
The 39-year-old has been a healthy scratch in 12 of the Flames last 13 games as the Flames have not needed his services too often lately. He has become a big help for younger players who have sat out with him, including Mikael Backlund. "I know my situation," says Conroy. "You try to make him feel better. You try to pull on the positives - what makes Backlund such a good player - and just try to be good with him. You want to make him feel better about himself because it is a tough spot when you're not playing. You feel bad. And a young guy like that, they usually take it harder than most. You don't want him to be discouraged. You want him to be positive and ready for the next game." Perhaps Conroy still has a lot to contribute at the NHL level, even if it is not on the ice or in fantasy pools.
