Georges Laraque has been suspended for five games by the NHL.
Laraque is being punished for a knee-on-knee hit on Detroit's Niklas Kronwall on Saturday. Kronwall is expected to miss four-to-eight weeks due to the incident. Laraque only received a tripping minor on Saturday and he said that the hit was an accident. "There were four refs on the ice and they didn't call anything," Laraque said on Saturday. "If they called a match penalty it would be different. There was no intent, there was no reason why I would try to go and hurt him." Laraque will be eligible to return on Friday December 4th.
