Drew's shoulder won't affect contract status
J.D. Drew - OF - Boston Red Sox
Nov. 22, 2009 - 5:20 PM ET

The Red Sox confirmed Sunday that J.D. Drew's recent left shoulder surgery will not affect his future contract status.

There's a clause in Drew's contract that would allow the Red Sox to opt out if he spends 35-plus days on the disabled list in 2010. But that clause pertains to his right shoulder issues, not left, and GM Theo Epstein told the Boston Herald Sunday that he considers Drew's offensive, defensive, and baserunning abilities an "integral part of the lineup."
