Kings fans, region leaders get one more year
Tyreke Evans - G - Sacramento Kings
April 22, 2011 - 7:30 PM ET

Reports are emerging that the Kings are likely to get one more year to stay in Sacramento, following a series of meetings and fact finding missions conducted by the NBA, leaders in the greater Sacramento region, and Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof -- despite the Maloofs desire to move the team to Anaheim.

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson worked behind the scenes to secure regional political support and corporate sponsorship, and has convinced the NBA to give the city a year to deliver on a new arena -- the tipping point for a decision to stay or go. Meanwhile, the fan group #HereWeBuild turned the town purple (literally), and has given the mayor political cover for building an arena with the potential to use public funds -- a key sticking point in past initiatives.
