RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -The struggling Carolina Hurricanes have placed goalie Cam Ward on injured reserve with a sliced left leg.
The Hurricanes made a pair of moves before Wednesday night's game against Los Angeles. They called up defenseman Bryan Rodney from their AHL affiliate in Albany to fill Ward's roster spot.
They also said defenseman Joni Pitkanen probably wouldn't skate against the Kings because of an undisclosed illness.
Ward was hurt Saturday night when his leg was cut by a skate early during a 3-2 loss - the Hurricanes' club-record 12th straight. They signed veteran Manny Legace earlier this week to fill in for him.
Rodney was called up by Carolina for the first time this season. He had two assists in eight games last year with the Hurricanes.
