WHARTON, N.J. - Defensive end Ronald Powell of Rancho Verde High School (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 31. Powell, who is arguably the most dangerous two-way player in the nation, led the Mustangs to a dominating 71-0 win over Vista del Lago High School (Folsom, Calif.), highlighted by his 60-yard interception return for a touchdown. Powell will play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl for the West Team.
Powell is a consensus top five player by the nation’s most respected ranking systems, and has been coveted by some of the most elite collegiate programs in the nation, including Florida, Southern California and Notre Dame. He is considered to be one of America’s top athletes, and has been recruited to play both defensive end and tight end at the next level. Powell was an attendee of Football University’s Top Gun, where he starred among the nation’s best prep football talent.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week was designed to recognize the nation’s top performance of the week. The winner will be announced each Monday, throughout the season and noted on www.usarmyallamericanbowl.com.
