Injured Ronaldo ruled out of playoffs by Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -Cristiano Ronaldo will miss both legs of Portugal's World Cup playoff against Bosnia-Herzegovina after the team's doctors ruled that his ankle is still injured.

The Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement that the doctors checked the winger's fitness after he flew into Lisbon on Tuesday and agreed with Real Madrid's diagnosis that the player was unfit.

Madrid had initially balked at allowing Ronaldo to travel.

Portugal plays Bosnia-Herzegovina in Lisbon on Saturday and then at Zenica on Nov. 18 with a place in next year's tournament in South Africa on the line.

Ronaldo was hurt on Sept. 30. He aggravated the injury while playing for Portugal in a qualifier against Hungary on Oct. 10 and hasn't played since.
