BOSTON (AP) - An independent investigation of the death of a Boston Celtics fan has found police acted "reasonably" when they arrested the man, who stopped breathing while in custody.
But Tuesday's report by former U.S. attorney Donald Stern also found it wasn't clear who was monitoring 22-year-old David Woodman after he was arrested.
Stern says the officers did not contribute to Woodman's death, but he recommended more training for officers to handle similar situations.
Woodman was arrested on a public drinking charge June 18, 2008, during the Celtics' championship celebrations. His parents have criticized the police response and planned a news conference for Tuesday afternoon.
The state medical examiner found Woodman died from a heart arrhythmia. Prosecutors have declined to file criminal charges.
