They're back! Yanks win 27th World Series
Mariano Rivera - R - New York Yankees
Nov. 5, 2009 - 12:05 AM ET
Hideki Matsui tied the single-game World Series record with six RBI as the Yankees finished off the Phillies in six games.

The Yankees have won their 27th World Championship and their first since 2000. Entering Wednesday's Game 6, much of the concern was about Andy Pettitte starting on only three days' rest, but Pedro Martinez was the one who looked fatigued. Pettitte allowed three runs over 5 1/3, while Joba Chamberlain, Damaso Marte and Mariano Rivera combined for 3 1/3 scoreless frames to bring a World Championship back to the Bronx. Matsui, who was 8-for-13 (.615) with three home runs and eight RBI, was named the series MVP. Time for Joe Girardi to get a new uniform number.
