Viking opener postponed until Sunday morning
Oct. 31, 2009 - 2:50 PM ET
The PGA Tour announced tonight that the opening round of the Viking Classic will not begin until Sunday morning at the earliest.

The Madison, Mississippi area is getting drenched yet again tonight. With already saturated turf, this was the most logical decision for right now. Tour officials will convene again at 10:00 a.m. local time and update the public at noon. "We are going to come out and reassess the golf course and ... just see what the overnight brings us," said Slugger White of the PGA Tour. "It's rather dismal. There is no fooling anybody with that. So it's something we have to look at and I just don't want to speculate on anything until tomorrow we look at it again." If it ever starts, the tournament is likely going to be truncated to 54 holes to secure a Tuesday finish. Tour regulations prohibit play beyond then. Will MacKenzie is the defending champion.
