Former NBA star Antoine Walker, who was arrested July 16 in Stateline, Nev., for failing to pay bets, is nearly bankrupt, the Boston Globe reported Monday.
Walker has unpaid debts totaling more than $4 million, the Globe reported, including owing more than $3 million to two banks and $450,000 to his former agent. The former star forward, who played with the Celtics and Heat, does not have an NBA contract right now.
Walker, who faces a court hearing Thursday in Las Vegas on three counts of passing bad checks, declined comment, the Globe reported. He faces up to 12 years in jail if convicted.
Walker earned more than $110 million in his NBA career, the Globe reported, but unnamed former teammates and friends fear he has squandered nearly all that.
The $3 million owed to the banks comes from loans related to non-basketball enterprises, the Globe reported, citing court documents.
PBT: Boston's Rajon Rondo continues to be named in trade talks, which is madness. The Celtics guard creates offense and makes everyone around him better, which was evident in Sunday's win over the Bulls.
Paul Pierce has been around long enough to know what Rajon Rondo's performance can mean for the aging Boston Celtics.
