LONDON - Frank Lampard scored twice Saturday to lead Chelsea to a record 5-0 win over Blackburn and first place in the Premier League.

Chelsea dominated throughout and led at halftime through an own-goal by Gael Givet, before four second-half goals sealed its biggest win in 102 years of games against Blackburn.

Michael Essien and Didier Drogba also scored to help Chelsea recover from last week’s 2-1 loss at Aston Villa.

“We wanted to bounce back and we’ve done it in style today,” Lampard said. “It was a determined performance and we’ve shown a little bit of what we’re about.”

Chelsea has 24 points after 10 games, two more than defending champion Manchester United, which could retake the top spot if it wins at rival Liverpool in one of four matches on Sunday.

Tottenham could have drawn even on points with Manchester United with a victory, but stayed in third place after a 1-0 loss to visiting Stoke, while Aston Villa drew 1-1 at lowly Wolverhampton.

Sunderland lost 2-1 at Birmingham.

Tottenham dominated Stoke, but played the last 13 minutes with 10 men after an injury to winger Aaron Lennon. Substitute Glenn Whelan scored the winner with four minutes left.

Tottenham’s third loss of the season left it on 19 points and likely to be overtaken by Arsenal and Manchester City on Sunday.

Fourth-place Arsenal is at West Ham, while fifth-place Manchester City hosts Fulham. Bolton hosts Everton in Sunday’s other match.

Villa is two points behind Tottenham in sixth place.

Sampadoria tops Bologna
Sulley Muntari and Wesley Sneijder scored as Inter Milan beat Catania 2-1 to reclaim top spot in the Serie A after Sampdoria had defeated Bologna 4-1 on Saturday to briefly lead the standings.

Inter led 2-0 at halftime at the San Siro and held on despite Giuseppe Mascara scoring a late penalty for Catania.

Sampdoria scored four first-half goals, Daniele Mannini hitting two and Giampaolo Pazzini and Reto Ziegler adding one each before Paolo Osvaldo picked up a second-half consolation goal for Bologna.

Injury-time goal lifts Mallorca
Borja Valero scored an injury-time equalizer in the Spanish league to give nine-man Mallorca a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid, which was playing its first game since coach Abel Resino was fired.

Also, Sevilla drew 0-0 against Espanyol, which played most of the second half with 10 men.

Diego Forlan scored a 52nd-minute penalty to give Atletico a 1-0 lead after Mallorca’s Ivan Ramis was ejected after a second yellow card for a handball in the area.

Mallorca also had Josemi Gonzalez dismissed for handball in the area in the 27th, but Forlan blasted that spot kick wide.

Real Madrid played at Sporting Gijon later Saturday after having been beaten midweek by AC Milan in the Champions League. Madrid can take the standings lead with a victory, although Barcelona still had to play Zaragoza on Sunday.

Barcelona leads with 19 points, one more than Madrid. Sevilla, which played at Espanyol later, and Deportivo La Coruna have 15.

Feyenoord wins
Feyenoord midfielder Denny Landzaat scored to lead his team to a 1-0 win over VVV-Venlo in the Dutch league.

Landzaat scored off a rebound after goalkeeper Kevin Begois had spilled Roy Makaay’s shot.

FC Twente leads the standings with 26 points, two more than PSV Eindhoven. Feyenoord has 23 points along with Ajax, which is at defending champion AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

Twente hosts FC Groningen Sunday hoping to extend its 10-game unbeaten run while PSV, the only other unbeaten side this season, travels to NEC Nijmegen.

Also Saturday, Erik Falkenburg scored a hat trick to lead Sparta Rotterdam to a 3-2 win over ADO The Hague. Falkenburg hit the net in the ninth, 38th and 90th minutes. Danny Buijs and Charlton Vicento replied with first-half goals for ADO.
