RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 3 - Virginia Tech cornerback DeAngelo Hall and Miami cornerback Antrel Rolle were suspended by the Big East on Monday for fighting during the Hokies’ 31-7 victory against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
HALL WILL MISS the first half of the fifth-ranked Hokies’ game at No. 25 Pittsburgh on Saturday night, and Rolle will miss all of No. 6 Miami’s game against No. 18 Tennessee.
Hall’s loss will be especially difficult for Virginia Tech because star wide receiver and Heisman Trophy candidate Larry Fitzgerald will be in action for Pittsburgh.
Hall and Rolle exchanged punches and were ejected with about five minutes left in Virginia Tech’s victory, which ended Miami’s 39-game regular season winning streak.
Hall was suspended for a half because he was in the game at the time of the fight. Rolle was suspended for an entire game because he was not in the game.
“It’s a very weird deal,” Miami coach Larry Coker said. “I think it’s a little unfortunate. ... Certainly I think it’s unfair, but that’s the way the rule reads and we’ll abide by that.”
