For Meyer, Tebow decision will be painful

Don't do it, Urban! Play backup vs. LSU and watch Gators rally around him

Will Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, who suffered a concussion against Kentucky on Sept. 26, play against No. 4 LSU on Saturday night? That decision rests with coach Urban Meyer.

4. Bobby Bowden
It's a shame it has come to this. An all-time coach, a great man and one of the game's true ambassadors is being taken away from the program he built kicking and screaming and scratching and clawing.

Bowden's wife, Ann, told the Orlando Sentinel that Florida State "used" her husband in the early years to sell the program. And now that he's in the twilight of his career, they're throwing him away.

Yes, it's hyperbole. But you know what? How else could Ann Bowden, or Bobby Bowden, feel at this point? For the last five years, the nincompoop running the university — president T.K. Wetherell — has said Bowden will stop coaching when he wants to stop coaching. No questions asked.

Doesn't matter about the failing program or the dysfunctional coaching staff or the fact FSU now is No. 4 in the state behind South Florida. All that matters to My Way T.K. is honoring Bowden at the expense of the program.

Athletic director Randy Spetman — a respected administrator — is all but powerless as the drama plays out.

For the sake of the program you built, Bobby, take a deep breath and rip off the Band-Aid so the healing can begin.

5. SEC officials
How would you like to be one of these guys? First, the league says no excessive celebrating or taunting, gives no direct guidelines and tells its officials to call it to the letter.

Then an officiating crew makes a key mistake in last week's LSU-Georgia game, a celebration penalty against Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green that had a direct impact on the result of the game.

And now this: Florida at LSU, Alabama at Ole Miss. It's the biggest Saturday in the conference this season, with each game a huge step for four teams trying to make it to the SEC championship game — and maybe the BCS national title game.

Good luck prying that yellow hanky out of the collective pockets of those officials for excessive celebrating. Or, for that matter, any penalty.

These will be the cleanest — as far as penalties are called — game of the season in the SEC.
