A: Manning has had success in two minute drills, no question. But it’s difficult to duplicate the urgency and pace of a two minute drill for a long period of time.
Sometimes, change-ups are effective because they are change-ups. I looked up Manning’s numbers in the final two minutes of games (which encompasses more than just two minute drills) going back to the start of the 2008 season, and his stats are pretty good.
According to Stats, Inc., Manning has completed 42-of-68 passes (61.8 percent) for 398 yards. He has thrown six touchdowns and two interceptions, and his passer rating is 95.1.
Q: Are the Raiders going to do if Russell keeps regressing? Would they trade Russell for a better QB or draft one?
— Jon, Bakersfield, Calif.
A: Well, Michael Vick may be available. He’d be a perfect Raider, no? If Russell keeps regressing I would expect the Raiders to acquire a veteran in the offseason, either through free agency or the trade market.

Q: Ever since Jason Campbell became starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins, they have been slowly falling downhill. Would it make a difference if they chance Campbell for someone else?
— Omid Arzili, Glandale, Calif.
A: Don’t lay all the blame at Campbell’s locker. There probably aren’t many quarterbacks in the National Football League who would look good under center for the Redskins.
One of the problems with that offense is the Redskins really don’t have a skill player who puts fear in defenses, who forces defenses to change their game plans. It’s not easy for a quarterback to play well when he isn’t getting a lot of help.
Q: Dear Dan, My question: The coach realizes that there are too many men on the field and time is short. Can the extra player run to the nearest sideline even though it is the opposing side?
— Sally Stark, Stevensville, Mont.
A: Rule 5, Section 2, Article 6 states, “A player or players who have been replaced must leave the playing field or end zone on their own team’s side between the end lines prior to the next snap, free kick, or fair-catch kick.”
