Golden State’s Stephen Jackson has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for saying he wanted to be traded.

NEW YORK - Golden State’s Stephen Jackson has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for saying he wanted to be traded.

Jackson, who averaged a team-best 20.7 points per game last season, told Dime Magazine last month that he wanted out and had told the front office as much.

Players are not permitted to make trade requests publicly. Ron Artest, then of the Indiana Pacers, was fined during the 2005-06 season for requesting a trade through the media.

Shortly after Jackson’s comments were made public, general manager Larry Riley said he still considered the swingman a key part of the team.
