Jordan Staal (knee) is expected return to the Pittsburgh Penguins' lineup on Saturday.
Staal has been sidelined for 15 straight contests because of the injury. "I think the knee feels really strong and everything feels really good," Staal said. He'll have a significant role on Saturday, according to Penguins coach Dan Bylsma, but he isn't expected to log 20 minutes of ice time. To cut back on Staal's playing time on Saturday, he might not be used much to kill penalties. However, he is still projected to play on the second power-play unit.
Simon Despres "tweaked" his ailing knee on Thursday.
Despres has been sidelined with an injured MCL. "It's part of coming back," he said. "You're pushing your body. When you don't have those tweaks, you know you're ready." On Monday, coach Dan Bylsma suggested that Despres was "five-to-10 days" away from returning, but this recent setback might have derailed that timeline.

Jordan Staal appears to be on track to return from his knee injury on Saturday when the Penguins will entertain the Winnipeg Jets.
He exited Thursday's practice after taking a stick to the face to get patched up, but his knee will probably be ready to go by the weekend. Staal hasn't played since Jan. 6.

Tyler Kennedy has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, which is suspected to sideline him for the next four to six weeks.
He suffered the injury with just 2:21 remaining in the third on Sunday. Kennedy hasn't been able to recapture his success from a year ago in 2011-12. He has six goals and 22 points in 42 games after scoring 21 times and producing 45 points last season.

The demotions of forwards Colin McDonald and Jason Williams on Wednesday could indicate that Jordan Staal will be ready to come back from his knee injury and play this weekend.
The Penguins host Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon and Tampa Bay visits on Saturday night. Staal participated in practice on Monday and Tuesday and he hasn't played since Jan. 6.
Pittsburgh has reassigned Colin McDonald to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
He has no points and six shots in five games at the NHL level this campaign.
Jason Williams has been returned to the minors by Pittsburgh.
In eight NHK games with the Penguins this season, he has notched a goal and an assist.
