According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Hong-Chih Kuo's deal with the Mariners is worth $500,000 guaranteed.
It will jump to $1 million if Kuo secures a spot in the Mariners' Opening Day bullpen and is able to maintain it all year. He can also earn another $2.25 million through performance-based incentives. The 30-year-old left-hander owns a 3.73 career ERA and 1.21 career WHIP.
Mariners' minor league catcher Christian Carmichael was suspended 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Carmichael, a sixth-round pick from 2010, tested positive for using Methylhexaneamine. The 19-year-old backstop has spent the past two seasons with the Mariners' rookie league team, batting .135/.224/.250 batting line over 59 plate appearances. He'll now get a late start on his 2012 campaign.
Mariners designated C Chris Gimenez for assignment.
Gimenez, 29, batted just .203/.314/.271 in 70 plate appearances last year. He could pass through waivers and rejoin the M's as organizational catching depth.
Mariners signed RHP Shawn Camp to a one-year deal.
No word yet on the financial details. Camp, 36, posted a 4.21 ERA and 32/22 K/BB ratio in 66 1/3 innings last season out of the Blue Jays bullpen. He will presumably function as a middle reliever this year for Seattle.
Mariners designated OF Mike Wilson for assignment.
Wilson made his major league debut last season at the age of 28, but failed to impress while batting just .148/.179/.185 in 28 plate appearances. He seems likely to accept a spot with the Mariners' Triple-A club.
Mariners signed LHP Hong-Chih Kuo to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the financial details of the agreement, but it's probably not worth much more than $1 million. Kuo struggled to attract free agent interest this winter afer posting a troubling 9.00 ERA and 36/26 K/BB ratio across 27 innings last year out of the Dodgers bullpen. He's struggled recently with elbow and anxiety issues.
According to the Seattle Times, Kyle Seager isn't considered a lock to make the Mariners' Opening Day roster.
Seager has minor league options left and his performance last season wasn't strong enough to guarantee him a spot on the 25-man roster. Chone Figgins isn't going anywhere because of his contract and could even hit leadoff at times. The M's have also brought veteran infielder Carlos Guillen into the fold.
