The left-hander will take a 4.38 ERA into his next start in Detroit. We wouldn't expect a similar set of results there.

Boston also won the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader with Tampa Bay. Gomes did not play in that earlier game and had not managed a hit through his first three at-bats when he came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. The rest, as they say, is history.
