Five players rise above pack at Top Gun camp
Another major offer for 2011 star
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a standout 2011 tight end from Gig Harbor (Wash.) High, added another major Pac-10 scholarship offer on Monday, from Oregon State.
“I’ve never been down there, but I know they beat USC last year,” Seferian-Jenkins said of Oregon State. “They have a great offensive coordinator [Danny Langsdorf], and that has me interested. I’m also close to getting offers from Oklahoma, USC, BYU and Notre Dame. They’ve all told me that news could be coming soon.”
Jenkins, who is 6-8 and 248 pounds, already had offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Florida, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, Washington State and Boise State.
Etc.
- Reports surfaced last week that Shawnee (Kan.) Bishop Miege wide receiver Justin McCay, a Rivals100 prospect, would narrow his list to five schools soon. But sources say McCay will hold off on that to focus on the start of his senior season and working to keep on track academically. McCay has been linked heavily with Florida, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Kansas State and Missouri, among others.
- Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes five-star running back Marcus Lattimore narrowed his list to five schools late last week. The lucky five for the nation’s No. 2 running back? “It’s Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, North Carolina and Auburn,” he said. He has lined up official visits to Oregon on Oct. 9 and Penn State on Oct. 30.
- After months and month of speculation, four-star wide receiver Ricardo Miller — a Michigan commitment — officially announced he was moving to Ann Arbor (Mich.) Pioneer after starting his career at Orlando Dr. Phillips. He said the move will help him build a stronger relationship with Wolverines coaches. “I am going to be around the [Michigan] coaches a lot and very early,” he said. “I am graduating early and starting the process earlier, so it should be a good transition for me.”
- Defensive tackle Bjoern Werner of Salisbury (Conn.) School originally was projected to be part of the 2011 class. But Werner, a 6-4, 265-pounder who originally is from Germany, has now reclassified as a player who can be recruited for the 2010 class. He already has offers from Boston College, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Missouri, Rutgers, UTEP and Tulsa, among others. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Cal for the Maryland game.
