The Flyers, not the Capitals, will be the Boston Bruins' opponent for next season's NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park on Jan. 1, the Delaware County Times reported.
While the NHL reportedly wanted the Capitals and star Alex Ovechkin in the game, NBC told the league that it preferred the Flyers, because the Philadelphia-based team would draw better television ratings.
The NHL is set to release the 2009-2010 regular-season schedule on July 15.
Ryan Callahan scored three goals as the New York Rangers beat Philadelphia 5-2 on Saturday for their seventh straight win over the Flyers.
