Ernie Els carded a final round of 6-under-par 66 and won the WGC-CA Championship by four-strokes over Charl Schwartzel.
Els started off hot with three birdies in his first four holes, and after Schwartzel bogeyed the 5th hole, Els enjoyed a three-stroke advantage. Schwartzel then made a run of three consecutive birdies and at the turn Els held a thin one-stroke lead over his playing partner. On the back nine, Schwartzel opened with a birdie to tie for the lead, but a poor approach on the next hole gave the lead back to Els. The key moment of the match came when Els looked like he might give up the lead at the 14th hole after an errant tee shot and a hit palm branch on his second shot, but he was able to drop a 24-foot par-putt to keep the lead. Schwartzel then bogeyed the next hole to fall two-strokes off the pace. The lead eventually expanded out to four-strokes after a two-shot swing at the 17th hole and Els two-putted the final hole for the championship. The victory is the 17th career title on the PGA Tour for Els and it is his first on the Tour since the 2008 Honda Classic.
