ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Steelers are still trying to sign restricted free agent Mike Wallace long-term.
Wallace will be locked in at an affordable $2.742 million whenever he finally signs his tender, but the Steelers still have designs on avoiding another drama next offseason. Wallace is believed to be seeking the moon, however, making any potential multi-year pact seem unlikely for the moment. Wallace has until June 15 to sign his tender before the Steelers can drop his salary to $577,000.

The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears have "concerns" about unsigned franchise player Matt Forte's knees.
This goes a long way toward explaining why the Bears are playing hardball with their 26-year-old lead back. Forte had never missed a game with injury before spraining his right MCL in Week 13 last season, but the Bears reportedly "worry over how long (his) knees will hold up." Forte carried the ball 833 times in college, and has 1,237 career touches through four NFL seasons. Forte tore his left PCL in college, and sprained it in 2009. The Tribune believes the Bears want to "protect themselves from arthritis setting in." It very well could mean Forte won't be able to do better than his $7.7 million franchise tender this offseason.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Friday that the Chiefs have "no concerns whatsoever" about Jamaal Charles' ACL recovery.
"Chiefs tell me no concerns whatsoever," Mort reported on ESPN 32. "... They expect him certainly to be ready for training camp. They're excited about him." Though Charles is sitting out OTAs, all signs point to him returning fully in camp. Mort also noted new Chiefs OC Brian Daboll's success with a somewhat similar player in Reggie Bush last year with the Dolphins. Bush set career highs in carries (216) and rushing yards (1,086) in Daboll's scheme.

Appearing on ESPN 32 Friday, Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post characterized Knowshon Moreno as a player "fighting for a roster spot" at Broncos OTAs.
Moreno's scholarship in Denver expired when Josh McDaniels was kicked out of town, and he'll now have to fight off Mario Fannin and Lance Ball just to be third string. Moreno underwent surgery to repair his right ACL on December 1. While he is participating in OTAs on a limited basis, Moreno can't afford to lose any burst. We wouldn't be surprised to see Moreno traded before the season.
According to the Denver Post, the "expectation" at Broncos headquarters is that third-round pick Ronnie Hillman will be an immediate contributor in Denver's offense.
The 67th overall pick, Hillman reportedly impressed as a pass catcher in OTA workouts, and it sounds like he's already No. 2 on the projected depth chart, behind Willis McGahee. While we weren't smitten with Hillman's game coming out of San Diego State, he could be headed for a significant role in what will be a much more pass-heavy Broncos offense. McGahee doesn't play in the passing game, and the Broncos soured on Knowshon Moreno long ago.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter Friday that there is optimism in the Giants' organization about Hakeem Nicks' (foot surgery) availability for the season opener.
The Giants are on a slightly shorter timeline than the rest of the league because they play the Cowboys in the Wednesday night NFL opener on September 5. Per Schefter, however, Giants doctors don't believe Nicks' fractured fifth metatarsal is a "dire" injury, and he could be back at some point in August. Nicks' injury caused an initial scare, but he sure seems likely to play in Week 1, barring setbacks. He's just not going to do much, if anything, in camp.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Colts are actively trying to trade for Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins.
Per Schefter, Indianapolis has made "multiple trade offers," and the latest remains on the table. Though Cowboys coach Jason Garrett stated adamantly this week that Jenkins would not be traded, a league source familiar with the situation told Schefter that he believed a deal could be worked out "for the right price." It all comes down to the amount of compensation. So far, Dallas has been unwilling to accept lowball offers for the disgruntled cornerback.
