Burton, at 180.572 mph in the No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado, was the fastest of the 38 trucks out on the track for this practice leading up to Friday night's event. No. 17 Timothy Peters, No. 88 Matt Crafton, No. 98 Johnny Sauter and No. 19 Ross Chastain were the rest of the top 5 on the speed chart. Norm Benning was the slowest in the No. 57 truck.

21-year-old Jake Crum will pilot the #01 Chevy Silverado with sponsorship from Frontline Designs and Jersey Mike's Subs. Crum's efforts will be led by crew chief Doug George, who has three top-six finishes at Charlotte in four trips as a crew chief. Busch's overall All-Star Race record is: 11 starts, one win, four top-fives, six top-10s, one pole and 30 laps led. His average start is 8.1 and average finish 10.8. He followed his 2010 All-Star Race win with a victory the following week at Charlotte in the Coca-Cola 600. He is one of four active drivers to have won the Charlotte double. The others are Jeff Gordon (1997), Jimmie Johnson (2003) and Kasey Kahne (2008).
