The Big 12 fared better. Along with Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas remain alive, and all three remain dangerous. If Memphis starts looking ahead to the potential John Calipari / Jim Calhoun love fest in the West, the Tigers could have a lot of trouble with Missouri in the semifinals. But Missouri would be wise to learn an important lesson from Maryland’s Greivis Vasquez and not say anything that might rile up Memphis.

The defending champion Jayhawks have gotten almost 65 percent of their points from Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich, who were sensational in wins over North Dakota State and Dayton. Kansas needs more scoring help from its supporting cast to reach the Final Four. Michigan State and Arizona, two teams that beat the Jayhawks badly during the regular season, remain in their path — along with No. 1 overall seed Louisville.

We will likely hear more about Ty Lawson’s sore toe as the week progresses. Unfortunately for fans of guys who never give up, we’ve heard the last of Marquette’s Dominic James. The senior guard with the broken foot — and his teammates — gave it one last shot Sunday before finally losing to Missouri.

There was a time when Gonzaga was the greatest Cinderella of all. The Zags have declined that title since 1999, when it made the Elite Eight. Thanks to Demetri Goodson’s last-second impersonation of Tyus Edney on Saturday, Gonzaga can still dream about its first Final Four berth. Gonzaga is 28-5, just slightly better than the 28-6 average record for this year’s Sweet 16 teams.

If you love the tournament, hopefully you got to see Goodson’s length-of-the-floor dash and layup as it happened. It came in the midst of one of those multiple-game finishes that CBS had to deal with at the end of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The scheduling of games has resulted in a nightmare for CBS this year. It’s always fun to have the possibility of multiple upsets but CBS and the NCAA must do something about staggering tip-offs better. Nothing is more frustrating than watching a game for 37 or 38 minutes and then suffering through four or five switches that result in a viewer missing all the key moments in two or more games.

Like everything else, that should improve during the regional round when CBS doesn’t have as many games to worry about and the start times are staggered better. But for 2010, here’s a suggestion for CBS: split screens.

You could even cut all the sound feeds. We just want to see everything. We don’t need anybody telling us about it — unless we miss something, of course.
